I have been fascinated with the past all my life. Although time travel is not possible (at least, as far as I know), we can still experience it through what I call "relics of the fourth dimension." Namely, as the old saying goes, "time marches on." We can't travel in the fourth dimension, except going forward in the present, but we can follow the trail of the fourth dimension. Along the way, people lose or discard items from their being. These relics are unintentional time capsules that give us as glimpse into their lives. Here on The Time Searchers blog, I will show some relics of the past that I have run across in our present. Sometimes when I am out on a relic hunt with the Colonial Relic Hunter, we know that we are not alone. There is more than just relics at these historical sites. Indeed, it could be said that there is a portal to the past, perhaps to another dimension, where that which once was, still is. THE NINTH GATE-JOHNNY DEPP-A GLIMPSE INTO THE BIG TIME WORLD OF ANTIQUES COLLECTING
HERE'S A LINK TO ONE OF MY FAVORITE FILMS. I THINK THIS ONE IS ANOTHER UNDERRATED CLASSIC. IT IS A COMBINATION OF THE OLD FILM NOIR AND MODERN FILMS. JOHNNY DEPP DID A GREAT JOB PLAYING ANTIQUE BOOK DEALER, DEAN CORSO. THIS FILM REMINDS ME OF THE TIMES WHEN I WAS IN COLLEGE DEALING IN ANTIQUES AND WORKING WITH DIFFERENT COLLECTORS, DEALERS AND AUCTION HOUSES. IN THE HIGH END ANTIQUE AND ART MARKET, THESE COLLECTORS ARE A BREED APART AND HAVE THE MONEY TO GET WHAT THEY WANT IF THEY WANT IT BADLY ENOUGH. GUYS LIKE THE CHARACTER BORIS BALKEN WILL TRY TO USE YOUR CONTACTS AND INFLUENCE TO GET TO A CERTAIN PIECE. ALL THE BIG AUCTION HOUSES AND DEALERS KEEP TRACK OF WHO OWNS CERTAIN PIECES. SO, THE FILM IS RIGHT ON THE MONEY ON THAT COUNT. ALSO AS BROUGHT OUT IN THE WIKELEAKS EMAILS, SOME OF THESE RICH PEOPLE ARE IN TO DEVIL WORSHIP AND EVEN IN MY LIMITED EXPERIENCES, I FOUND THE MORE GRUESOME THE HISTORY OF THE PIECE, THE MORE MONEY THAT THESE PEOPLE WOULD PAY FOR IT. I THOUGHT THIS ODDBALL FILM WAS ONE OF JOHNNY'S BEST AND HE DID A GREAT JOB IN IT. HIS CHARACTER GOT CAUGHT UP IN THE HUNT FOR THE SECRET OF THE NINTH GATE BOOK AND THE MORE YOU STUDY AND PURSUE SOME HISTORIC ITEMS, THIS IS EASY TO LET HAPPEN. -THE TIME SEARCHER.
